If you played Overwatch 1 and linked to a Battle.net Account prior to the release of Overwatch 2, you are not required to have a phone number, as of October 7. If your Battle.net Account is brand new, a mobile phone number must be linked to the Battle.net Account to play Overwatch 2 on Battle.net or Steam.
Note: XBox and Playstation players do not need a linked phone number.
